September 2013 news at the Library….CHECK US OUT!

Check us out!

The Liberty Hill Public Library has been HOPPING and if you haven’t been in, make a point to stop by.

We have expanded our weekly storytime to TWICE a week, Tuesday at 10:30 am and Wednesday at 10:30 am.  It will be the same storytime both days, we just have such a big crowd for the once a week that we decided it was time to expand.

We have been the proud recipients of some incredible donations and grants lately.

In 2011 the Texas Legislature asked that the Comptroller’s office develop a Web portal named RESHAPING TEXAS, a comprehensive statewide collection of resources and information to help Texans address the economic effects of obesity.  As part of their outreach, the Comptroller’s office has supplied children’s books and DVDs focusing on health and nutrition to all Texas public libraries.   There are some amazing gems in this donation.  Please check out www.reshapingtexas.org for many more resources on staying healthy.

The Liberty Hill Public Library was selected us to receive over 75 books from Texas Book Consortium publishers and the Texas A&M University Press, via the Collection Enhancement Program of Tocker Foundation.  The Tocker Foundation has adopted a goal of promoting Texas public libraries in communities of 12,000 or less.  Not only did we receive this collection development gift, but…..we received a grant of almost $5,000 for our Juvenile non-fiction collection.  ALL FROM TOCKER!  How’s that for support?  I’ll be ordering books soon to fulfill this grant!

In addition to the above, the Liberty Hill Community generously supports us.  In the past month we’ve had literally hundreds of pristine books and audio books on CD donated that we do not have in our collection.  We are making our way through the preparation of all these new items and every Friday afternoon sees excitement as we place new items on our shelves.  In addition to what you see on our shelves, we are available to you 24/7 via our eBook collection.

Don’t forget we offer faxing and copy services and even offer free notary services to the community.  Just call ahead to make sure the notary is available.  Need an exam proctored?  We now offer free proctoring services as well.  Please contact Sandy to make arrangements.

If you haven’t been by lately, please stop in.  We  offer so much more than people realize AND….we are the ONLY free DVD rentals in town.  Check DVDs out for a week at no cost, all with your library card, the smartest card in your wallet.
